Remembering Reima

This site was created in memory of our Reima Ruuhala. Our loving husband, father and grandfather.

Story

Born in Oulu, Finland

NOVEMBER 23rd, 1943

Reima Kalevi Ruuhala was born in the midst of WW2, in Northern Finland. He was born to loving parents, and shared his early years with his sister. After moving to Canada, Reima finished up his high school, and then joined the Canadian Reserves. While in BC, he met friends that would be a major part of his life, later they would all embark on a journey around the world by ship. This would be a life changing experience, and Reima loved taking pictures of everywhere he went.

After a whirlwind courtship, Reima and Irja married and began their family. Two daughters, Jacy and Erin came and the adventure of parenthood began. Reima provided love, encouragement, opportunities for travel, and we were always surrounded with family and friends. Laughter and music, sauna and swimming, hard work and goals; a foundation of family was solidified. Reima accepted Christ into his heart, and his faith was unwavering. This always gave him great peace and comfort, even while he was sick. The grandchildren brought such joy to Reima. Asia, Phoenix and Samuel were the shining stars in his eyes. He was so proud of them, and wanted to be involved in their lives as they became independent young adults.

Then, the tragic happened: Reima was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. He fought valiantly against the disease, lived longer than usually expected; Reima was the epitome of SISU: the strength of will, determination, and perseverance. He was very much loved, and he loved so many. Reima, Dad, Ukki will be missed
